Weather: Started out in low 20 degree weather ending in high 50s – low 60s by end of day.
Spent most of the day observing the changing trail conditions (I can see why the Inuit have so many different terms for snow!):
- Began in ~8 in of dry powder – didn’t pack well. Like walking in sand at the beach
- Changed to slightly wetter powder that did pack – like walking in the wet sand near the water’s edge at the beach
- Wetter snow – packed solid
- Frozen slush that had been packed down on the prior day – currently solid ice
- Frozen slush that had begun to thaw
- Slush
- Frozen mud
- Mud
- Wet trail
- Dry trail
First day that we sat and enjoyed lunch because the weather was warm.

We bedded down under Rhododendrons.
